State of education in Pakistan.
The situation is under control in most areas, says the Health Secretary
Punjab has returned to the first phase of opening education institutes with students being taken out from their homes on Thursday. However, the situation was not very comfortable with with many students being left in the school chairs for several hours before their teachers entered the school premises. PML-N youth leader Asad Umar has blamed the PML-N government for the poor condition of schools after office hours.
This is the fifth day of the reopening of schools and colleges amid talks with teachers and parents over new curriculum. The PTI government, however, is claiming to have worked out a comprehensive curriculum with just one-third of what is in schools nowadays. The health secretary had told the media that the health system is enough to go through the new curriculum and there is no need to reopen the schools as the situation is under control.
“The government, through social media, will take all efforts to make the coming months as good as possible. PTI government has one person at the top of the government’s team tasked with evaluating the state of education in Pakistan. All children should get quality education. The condition is not great now as we witnessed on Thursday,” said the health secretary.
Balochistan education minister Jam Kamal says that the government was proud of the fact that almost 2,800 schools and colleges are opened now in the province.
Punjab education secretary Mohammad Arif Chaudhry also said that the health and education sectors have been working together to ensure that education is available for the majority of children who are out of schools.
Earlier on Sunday, the government also announced reopening schools in KP for higher studies for students who have already obtained government assistance. However, the government announced that the education system will have to gradually increase the number of schools in a phased manner and to avoid making large numbers of children go out of school.
